The simple answer is no. The proof is in the sound quality of every Audio Art speaker. Glass is a very hard and heavy crystalline material. By its very nature it resists flexing and 'lets go' of vibration energy quickly. We also employ high tech anti resonance materials and techniques such as "mechanical grounding", high tech dampening materials and spherical enclosures to minimize unwanted resonance.
Yes and no. You can use your source components, such as CD players, turntables, tuners, etc. If you have a 'separates' system with a pre-amplifier and amplifier, you can use the pre-amp with the fully active system. We recommend using six identical channels of amplification with at least 80 watts per channel to power the speakers. If you have a current model stereo power amplifier, you can purchase two more identical models to fill out your system, or trade in for a 6 or 7 channel model. The components should be of the highest quality to fully utilize the performance capability of the speakers.
We also make a passive version of some of our loudspeakers for less demanding applications. These can be substituted for any regular Hi-Fi speaker.
